Academy has launched a Tax Club under its “Smart Trainee” Activities.

The objective of the Club is to promote:

• Presentation Skills of the students
• Improve subject knowledge on tax, including practical knowledge
• Develop Drafting capabilities
• Build the ability to work in a team   
• Short research exercise in tax

The club will consist of 24 participants. The selection to the club will be based on internal criteria designed by Prime Academy. The selected participants will be divided into 8 teams of 3 participants each.

The following will be the CLUB ACTIVITY and is based on the internationally acclaimed concept of “contest and learn”.

1. Every member of the Club will go through a full day “presentation skills program” to be conducted by an experienced trainer. 

2. Thereafter each participant of the team will select a topic of interest in Tax and will make a presentation for 15 minutes on the subject. Therefore, all the 3 members should present three different topics in Tax for 15 minutes each.  

3. The student can interact with the Tax Mentor in selection of topics and content. 

4. 12 participants selected (based on their performance) will be formed into 4 teams and they have to make individual presentations for 15 minutes for a second round which will be held on different dates. They will make a presentation on a different topic.

5. From the second round onwards each participant has to give a paper on the topic to be presented. This is introduced to improve the writing capabilities. 

6. On the basis of their performance in the Second Round 6 participants will be selected and formed into 2 teams for a final presentation.

7. The performance of the participants at all the three levels will be evaluated by a team of Judges having long experience in Direct Taxes.

8. Prizes will be given to the winners as under.

9. First Prize: Rs.9,000, Second Prize: Rs.5,000; Third Prize: Rs.3,000.  In addition there will be product gifts. All members will receive participation certificates on fulfillment of specified conditions.

10. Every member of the club will attend the presentations on all 7 days.

11. A core group will also be formed to do a small research work on tax which will be explained on the first day.

12. The Mentor for this Tax Club will be Mr. R Bupathy, FCA.

There will be a briefing session on the functioning of the second batch of Tax Club in the last week of May 2009. The date, venue and timing will be intimated later to the selected participants.
